Steamboat briefs: Japanese film slated to screen at Chief Theater on Wednesday, Sept. 13

Bud Werner Memorial Library's free foreign film series continues with Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda's award-winning drama, "After the Storm" screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the Chief Theater.

Dwelling on his past glory as a prize-winning author, Ryota (Hiroshi Abe) wastes the money he makes as a private detective on gambling and can barely pay child support. After the death of his father, his aging mother (Kirin Kiki) and beautiful ex-wife (Yoko Make) seem to be moving on with their lives. Renewing contact with his initially distrusting family, Ryota struggles to take back control of his existence and to find a lasting place in the life of his young son (Taiyo Yoshizawa).

Development grant funds local shooting, archery ranges

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will award $635,000 to six shooting and archery ranges across Colorado through the agency's Shooting and Range Development Grant Program, including $49,000 to Routt County Shooting Club Classroom in Steamboat Springs to expand and upgrade the existing classroom building.

SRDG supports the establishment, improvement and expansion of safe shooting facilities in Colorado and is one of the largest programs in the nation. Since 2012, SRDG has awarded more than $2.9 million in funding to 60 shooting and archery ranges in Colorado.

The program's funds come from federal excise taxes generated by the sale of hunting and shooting equipment, in addition to funds generated by license fees. Each local project partner commits funds for the various projects.
