Steamboat briefs: Friends of the Chief hosts volunteer meeting is Jan. 5

The Friends of the Chief, a nonprofit committed to the rehabilitation and revitalization of the Chief Plaza Theater in downtown Steamboat Springs, is in need of volunteers to clean, paint, research, usher and organize. Those interested are asked to attend a volunteer meeting from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at the theater, 813 Lincoln Ave. Email tamara@chieftheater.com for more information.

Sustainability Council takes used electronics to recycle

If you got a new cellphone or other electronic device during the holidays, the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council would like your old one. Items that are accepted for recycling include:



Cellphones, smartphones, wireless device accessories (cables, chargers, headsets, batteries, cases, Bluetooth, etc.), digital cameras, MP3 players, tablets, personal digital assistant, wireless air cards and GPS units. Items can be donated in the box inside Wells Fargo, 320 S. Lincoln Ave., or the Sustainability Council office, 141 Ninth St.

The Sustainability Council also is accepting old banners to be repurposed as bags.



VNA holds drop-in clinic for flu, pertussis shots Thursday

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association will be holding a drop-in clinic for flu and pertussis (whooping cough) shots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Steamboat Springs VNA office. Adult flu shots are $25, and children’s flu shots/FluMist are $14. Find a schedule of additional clinics at http://www.nwcovna.org or call the flu hotline at 970-871-7624.

Mainstreet seeks volunteers for its Design Committee

The Mainstreet Steamboat Springs Design Committee is looking for volunteers. The committee focuses on how downtown Steamboat looks and functions. Some of the projects of the committee have included the downtown bus shelters; adopting Eagle Scout Park for cleanup, plantings and ongoing maintenance; assistance with the design and execution of the streetscape plan on Lincoln Avenue; and flower baskets. Upcoming projects will include the Yampa Street revitalization and advocacy for sidewalks on Oak Street. The committee meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in Centennial Hall, 124 10th St. Call Tracy Barnett at 970-846-1800 for more information or to sign up for a meeting reminder email list.
