Steamboat briefs: Framing basics workshop begins at 10 a.m. Saturday

A framing basics workshop titled “How to Make the Most of Your Finished Art” is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at East West Frame Shop, 810 Lincoln Ave. The workshop will cover how to enhance the look and value of artwork, including framing, mat selection, glass considerations and more. Sew Steamboat, 929 Lincoln Ave., is hosting a Christmas stocking contest. Entries are due Dec. 1, and the winner will be announced at a Christmas stocking unveiling event Dec. 6.

Christie Stepan will lead collage class this weekend

Local artist Christie Stepan will lead a collage class Saturday and Sunday at Colorado Mountain College. The class will focus on generating ideas, imagery and compositions for painters, designers, quilters and illustrators using painted papers, photo imagery and found materials. The cost is $65. Business Plan Development Workshop set for Dec. 17

A Business Plan Development Workshop is from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 in Colorado Mountain College’s Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center, Conference Room 127. The workshop focuses on the fundamentals of writing a business plan including the financial forecast, market research and critical success factors. The cost is $15, and registration is required by calling 970-870-4491.

Local students earn Fort Lewis College scholarships

The following Steamboat Springs students have earned merit scholarships at Fort Lewis College, according to a news release.

■ Katherine Arnis received the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship. Arnis’ major is exercise science and exercise physiology.

■ Benjamin Custer received the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship. Custer’s major is undeclared.

■ Nicole Fry received the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship. Fry’s major is athletic training.

■ Sam Samlowski received the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship. Samlowski’s major is engineering.

■ Dylan Wilkinson received the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship. Wilkinson’s major is engineering.

■ Devin Wilkinson received the Transfer Student Tuition Merit Scholarship. Wilkinson’s major is psychology.
