Steamboat middle school club seeks donated guitars
The after-school club at Steamboat Springs Middle School is soliciting donations of used guitars in an effort to establish weekly music lessons covering folk, bluegrass, jazz, blues, rock, world and other types of music. Organizer Derek Kratzer, from Partners in Routt County, is asking for “any old, beat-up or simply unused and neglected (acoustic preferred) guitars” for students. Donations are tax-deductible.

Community Alliance sponsors a green forum
“Talking Green,” a Steamboat Springs green building group, holds its next event from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at L’Apogee/Harwigs. Local CPA Dana Tredway presents “Tax Incentives for Sustainability,” with local information about tax incentives for sustainable building practices. The event is a local forum for sharing information and networking about sustainable practices, technologies and products. The next “Talking Green” event is in January. First Impressions needs child care forum volunteers
First Impressions of Routt County is conducting four focus groups to gather public opinion about child care in the Yampa Valley. About 10 participants are needed for each focus group and will earn $20 in Steamboat Bucks for their efforts. Food and child care will be provided at each event. Focus groups are from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Olympian Hall in Howelsen Lodge, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Oak Creek Community Center, and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Hayden Public Library. Free diapers offered to mothers who quit smoking
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s “Baby and Me Tobacco Free” program offers free diapers for one year to any pregnant woman who is trying to quit smoking or who recently has quit. For more information, call Hope Cook at the VNA at 871-7622.
Optimist Club asks for Teen of the Month applications
The Steamboat Springs Optimist Club is accepting applications for its Teen of the Month program. Area high school students and those interested can pick up applications from their school counselors or can call Rob MacCarthy at 871-7179.
