Recycling center to open Friday in Steamboat

The recycling center at Steamboat Springs’ Waste Management facility will accept residential material Friday after being closed for nearly a month.

The system’s baler, a key piece of equipment used to package the recyclable goods onto transport trucks, was out of operation until Tuesday morning.

The Downhill Drive site is working this week to process the stockpile from the time the baler was broken before accepting new material Friday, said Mary Kay Runyan, director of operations for Waste Management’s Western Slope division.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and we’re looking forward to being back and up and running,” she said.
