Medical transportation available for veterans

— Transportation to the Grand Junction and Denver VA medical centers and the clinic in Craig is available for veterans who are unable to drive and who have an appointment Monday through Friday at either hospital. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Veterans Affairs Officer of Routt County at 879-5489 or e-mail mcondie@co.routt.co.us to arrange transportation.

Entering the VA medical system requires a copy of your DD 214 and about 20 minutes to fill out a form with the VA officer. The Routt County office is located in the Workforce Center in the Sundance at Fish Creek shopping center.

Rio Stampede race rescheduled for August

The 2008 Rio Stampede 12- and six-hour endurance races are postponed until Aug. 9, 2008, because of adverse conditions caused by enormous amounts of melting snowpack.

Registration remains open until Aug. 8. If you already are registered, you will be contacted directly. Feel free to contact Rocky Peak Productions at 879-0480, riostampede@springsips.com, or visit http://rockypeakproductions.com.

Mountain bus service altered until mid-July

A Mount Werner Water and Sanitation District construction project on Whistler Road has required a detour of Steamboat Springs Transit’s bus service.

During construction, buses will not turn onto Whistler Road to serve stops 207, 208, 209 and 210. Buses instead will continue up Walton Creek Road and continue to serve stops at Comfort Inn and Shadow Run. An additional stop has been added at the uphill edge of the Walton Creek Condominiums’ parking lot. Construction is scheduled for completion July 11.
