Steamboat briefs for Dec. 31

Accident near Iron Horse injures several people

Three vehicles were involved in a pileup accident about 6 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 40 near the Iron Horse Inn, just south of downtown Steamboat Springs, sending several individuals to the Yampa Valley Medical Center with unknown injuries. Sgt. Dale Coyner, of the Steamboat Springs Police Department, said the injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Updated reports were not available Tuesday evening.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue workers pulled several people from cars. The accident occurred in the westbound lane of U.S. 40 when three cars were involved in a chain-reaction-type accident. A sedan in the middle of two larger cars sustained the most damage. Traffic was reduced to one westbound lane during the evening rush hour, congesting traffic back into downtown Steamboat Springs.
