Session II Fall Skating class enrollment is now open.

Classes begin the week of Oct. 26 and include classes for ages 2 1/2 and older. Classes are offered at 4 p.m. Tuesdays and at 10:45 a.m. Thursdays.

3 trail work sessions begin 9 a.m. Saturday, Sunday

With a beautiful weekend in store, Routt County Riders has planned three trail work sessions, providing ample volunteer opportunities for those who want to get outdoors and get their hands dirty.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, a trail crew will work on Emerald Mountain from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the Blackmere Drive trailhead at 8:45 a.m. for transportation to the work site.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Routt County Riders will lead trail work at the Bear River Bike Park at the end of Lagoon Court. Volunteers can come for the day or just a few hours to help out with pump track drainage, surface and general touchup.

Tools will be provided; volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, backpack, sunscreen, rain gear, cap and water.

BookTrails to hold program on owls, creatures today

BookTrails, a local reading and writing organization, will hold a program today at Bud Werner Memorial Library’s Library Hall during the school in-service day. The program is titled “Owls and Other Curious Creatures of the Night” and will explore different nocturnal animals that live in Steamboat Springs and around the world. The program is for kindergarten to fifth-grade students. The cost is $50 for students or $80 for siblings. Haven Assisted Living hosts chili dinner at 5 p.m. today

Haven Assisted Living will host a chili dinner fundraiser from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.

Coffee with Council about budget at 7:30 a.m. today

Coffee with Council will continue with Councilman Scott Ford from 7:30 to 9 a.m. today in the Crawford Room at Centennial Hall, 124 10th St. Topics of discussion this week include budgeting and how priorities are set, as well as the marijuana cultivation ordinance. In addition, Interim City Manager Gary Suiter will attend to meet with participants. Community members are welcome to drop by to discuss any issues of interest to them. No RSVP is necessary. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Steamboat Sneak 5K, Fun Run slated for Saturday

The Steamboat Sneak 5K and Fun Run will be on held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Steamboat Springs Middle School. The cost to register is $10 for kids and $25 for adults, and all proceeds benefit Strawberry Park and Soda Creek elementary schools. To register visit Email for more information.

Local chapter of Questers seeks more members

The Steamboat Springs Questers Chapter is seeking new members. Founded in 1975, Steamboat Questers is a group of women who support historic preservation and appreciate antiques and collectibles. The chapter currently has a membership of 15 and hopes to expand.

Questers is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the study, conservation and preservation of historical objects for the benefit of today and tomorrow. The Steamboat chapter has supported numerous Routt County historic preservation projects through contributions and grants. It has also donated to statewide preservation endeavors and national scholarship funds.

The Steamboat chapter holds morning meetings nine times per year, on the second Tuesday each month. Members pay annual dues of $30. Every two years, each member is required to host a meeting and present an educational program.
