■ Introductory clinics for first timers are from noon to 1 p.m. today and April 17, and for beginners from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday and April 19. The cost is $6.

■ Open play for beginners is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Open play for intermediate players is from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. As many as three substitutes will be accepted, and names will be taken for a wait list. The cost is $6.

■ A tournament is from 1 to 4 p.m. April 28. The format will be round robin doubles pool play. A players meeting is at 12:30 p.m. April 28. The cost is $15, and the entry deadline is April 25.

Ambulatory equipment to help African polio victims

Denver nonprofit Crutches 4 Africa is collecting ambulatory equipment — including crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs and leg braces — for victims of polio in Africa.

A Hayden collection will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Sportsmed Physical Therapy, 300 S. Shelton St.

Steamboat collections will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at SportsMed, the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs, Ace at the Curve and Central Park Liquor and from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday on the lawn in front of Slopeside Grill.

A Craig collection will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.

The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs.

Council on Aging accepting Senior Awards nominations

The Routt County Council on Aging is accepting nominations for its Senior Awards, which will be presented at the organization's annual Spring Fling from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.

The Senior Citizen of the Year award will be presented to an adult 60 or older who has dedicated himself or herself in the past year to helping other older adults and whose service, relationships and contribution of leadership, knowledge and skills have made a difference in the community. Two people, such as a couple, can be nominated. Nancy Stahoviak was the 2012 Senior Citizen of the Year.

The Friend of the Seniors award will be presented to an individual, business, agency or organization whose relationships and contributions have positively impacted older adults in the community in the past year. Barbara Bronner was the 2012 Friend of the Seniors award recipient.

Sausage-making class is Monday evening at CMC

A sausage-making class is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Colorado Mountain College. The class will be lead by Rick Spencer, owner of Rick's BBQ Meats and Catering, who will discuss appropriate types of meats, seasonings and ingredients to create and critique your own sausages. Volunteers sought for Day of Caring on May 15

Routt County United Way is in need of volunteers for Day of Caring projects May 15. The volunteer work is done in the morning followed by a free lunch at Olympian Hall provided by Ski Town Lions Club.
