Steamboat briefs: Duo to host partner yoga workshop Saturday

Alex Mathisen and Danielle Preissing will host a partner yoga workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Yoga Center of Steamboat. No previous experience is necessary. Children ages 12 and older are welcome to attend, as well. The cost is $35 for each partnership, and space is limited.

Tennis tournament begins Friday at the Tennis Center

The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs is hosting its first USTA sanctioned Steamboat Sweetheart Tournament for juniors in ages 12 and younger, 14 and younger and 16 and younger, starting Friday and ending Monday.

There will be 16 Steamboat juniors competing in this event and more than 60 kids coming from out of town with their families and coaches.

The public is invited to come and watch the competition at no cost.

Three stores offering bins for recycling holiday lights

Recycle bins for old or broken holiday strand lights are at Natural Grocers, Wal-Mart and Ace at the Curve through Saturday. Proceeds benefit families that have a child with cancer.

Howelsen Ice Arena hosts free family skating party

Join the city of Steamboat Springs, in partnership with EASY 94.1 and SportsOnFM, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday for the free Family Skate Party at Howelsen Ice Arena.

There will be free skate rentals, and participants can use the bumper cars for free. Beau Jo’s pizza will be provided. Bumper cars are first come, first served starting at 6 p.m.

Annual Ski and Skate event at Yampa River State Park

Colorado Parks and Wildlife invites the public to Yampa River State Park’s 8th annual Ski and Skate at 2 p.m. Saturday at the park’s visitors center at 6185 W. U.S. Highway 40.

Participants can pick between a cross-country trek on the groomed ski trails, an afternoon of ice skating on the park’s pond or both.

The ski trail will be lit up at night once the sun sets, and people can enjoy some winter fun by the light of the moon and the light of neon-colored glow sticks. After the activities, there will be a campfire along with free hot chocolate and hot dogs provided by Yampa River State Park.

In addition, the Craig Chamber Ambassadors will hold their annual Chili Cook-off at the park beginning at 4:30 p.m. For more information about the cook-off, call Shannon at the Craig Chamber of Commerce at 970-824-5689.
