Steamboat briefs: Downtown Chili Challenge registration due Friday

Mainstreet Steamboat wants to remind all potential ninth annual Downtown Chili Challenge contenders that registration is due Friday. Competitors can enter in the red chili, green chili, other chili, salsa and/or cornbread categories. The fee is $10 per entry. Event celebrates 25 years of the Steamboat Today

The Steamboat Today will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special community event from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Depot Art Center. The free daily newspaper, which published its first issue Aug. 21, 1989, will host a reception and art show featuring iconic images and photographs published in the Today throughout the past 25 years. The event is open to the public. Beer, wine and appetizers will be served, and a 25th anniversary trivia contest will be launched at the celebration.

Hayden Heritage Center hosts volunteer meeting

The Hayden Heritage Center will host a meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday for people interested in volunteering for the museum’s fall fundraiser, a lantern tour of the Hayden Cemetery. Yoga in the Botanic Park wraps up after this week

It is the final week of the summer for yoga at the Yampa River Botanic Park. Yoga will be offered on the green from 9 to 10 a.m. today and Saturday, and mediation with gentle yoga will be held from 9 to 9:45 p.m. Thursday. All levels of participants are welcome, and complimentary snacks are offered. A $10 suggested donation helps support the park. Participants are asked to bring a mat or towel and water. Museum conducts tours of ‘Birds In Art’ exhibit

The Steamboat Art Museum will be conducting docent-led tours on the “Birds In Art” exhibit at 1:30 p.m. Thursdays. Tours are free and open to the public. For information, call 970-870-1755. 

Leadership Steamboat accepting applications

Leadership Steamboat is now accepting applications for the Class of 2015.   

A joint program of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association and Colorado Mountain College, Leadership Steamboat develops community leaders in business and community service with a comprehensive look at the Yampa Valley’s economic, political and social issues. The Leadership Steamboat class of 2015 will participate in field trips and community forums at the once-monthly training from September through June as well as complete a community project.

Preregistration is available for Community Bible Study

Women and children of all ages can pre-register for Community Bible Study. Starting Aug. 28, the group will be studying the Gospel of Mark from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays at Concordia Lutheran Church.
