Steamboat briefs: Design Committee seeks volunteers for projects
The Mainstreet Steamboat Springs Design Committee is looking for volunteers. The committee focuses on how downtown Steamboat looks and functions. Some of the projects of the committee have included the downtown bus shelters; adopting Eagle Scout Park for cleanup, plantings and ongoing maintenance; assistance with the design and execution of the streetscape plan on Lincoln Avenue; and flower baskets. Upcoming projects will include the the Yampa Street revitalization and advocacy for sidewalks on Oak Street. Food bank in Hayden will distribute food as needed

Haven Assisted Living Center offers respite care
The Haven Assisted Living Center in Hayden offers daytime and overnight respite care for older adults who need supervision. The Adult Activity and Care program is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays. The program includes lunch, activities and help with personal care needs. The cost is $75 per day or $50 for a half-day. Temporary overnight care is available for as many as 30 days for qualified individuals. Clients with memory care needs are welcome at a cost of $100 per day.

Tread of Pioneers Museum has limited exhibitions open
Tread of Pioneers Museum in downtown Steamboat Springs is open with limited exhibitions until a grand reopening scheduled for late January. Admission to the museum will be free during that interim period. For more information, visit http://www.treadofpioneers.org.
VNA offers immunizations, shingles vaccine for $14
Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering $14 immunizations for adults who are uninsured/underinsured including measles, mumps, rubella, HPV, chicken pox, pneumonia, meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough and hepatitis A and B.
The VNA also is offering a vaccine for shingles. Adults ages 60 and older who are low income and uninsured may qualify to receive the vaccine for a $14 fee through the Merck Patient Vaccine Assistance Program. Apply for the program by scheduling an appointment.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other leading medical groups recommend being vaccinated against meningitis for youths ages 11 to 18 as well as those ages 19 to 21 who attend college. College students younger than 22 who received a vaccine before age 16 should receive a booster.

Horizons seeks volunteers to be individual mentors
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking caring, committed volunteers for individual mentors as well as people who enjoy group activities such as gardening, swimming, dancing and community events. Residents can support Meals on Wheels for $1
Routt County residents can support the Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program by buying a wheel for $1 at the following locations: Ciao Gelato, Bamboo Market, the Steamboat Springs Community Center or the South Routt Community Center. In 2013, the Council on Aging will deliver about 3,000 Meals on Wheels to homebound senior citizens. For more information, call 970-879-0633.
Steamboat Springs resident looking for ukulel players
Steamboat Springs resident Dan Tyler is looking for ukulele players interested in joining a group that would practice and perform together. Denver’s Rocky Mountain Ukulele Orchestra Conductor Gary Jugert has indicated he would travel to Steamboat to help organize the group. Players of all levels and ages are welcome to join.
