Community Thanksgiving dinner in dire need of food
The annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner in Steamboat Springs is in urgent need of food. There is a need for cooked turkeys, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet and mashed potatoes, gravy, Jello salad and cranberry sauce. Items can be delivered between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Routt County United Way, which sponsors the dinner, is planning on feeding 775 people. Howelsen season passes to increase in price Sunday
Pricing for 2015-16 Howelsen Hill season passes will increase starting Sunday, Nov. 22. To receive discounted pricing, passes must be purchased by today.
To purchase a pass online, visit steamboatsprings.net/ski and click on the “Purchase Membership” button at the top of the page. Passes can also be purchased in person by visiting the Howelsen Hill concession stand located on the first floor of the Howelsen Hill Lodge. Steamboat Art Museum welcomes painting exhibit
“Len Chmiel: A Retrospective” is opening Friday, Dec. 4 at the Steamboat Art Museum. The exhibit, which will be at the museum through April 9, will feature 50 years of oil painter Chmiel’s work. Southwest Art Magazine said that Chmiel “enjoys the reputation as one of today’s most successful and widely admired landscape painters.” A “Night at the Museum” dinner honoring Chmiel will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at the museum. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling the museum at 970-870-1755 or online at steamboatartmuseum.org. Tickets can also be purchased in person from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Museum Store and the Wild Horse Gallery. In addition, an opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 during First Friday Artwalk, and an artist’s presentation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at the museum. Tickets for the presentation are $20.
Tread of Pioneers slated as closed Tuesday, Thursday
The Tread of Pioneers Museum in Steamboat Springs will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 24 and Thursday, Nov. 26.
Food bank in Hayden will distribute food as needed
The Hayden Community Food Bank and outreach ministry of Hayden Congregational Church will distribute food on an as-needed basis. Call Theresa Stivers at 970-276-2507.
Local students invited to play with orchestra
Local fourth- to eighth-grade students are invited to participate in the free Winter Gardens Children’s Orchestra, which meets weekly in the Steamboat Springs Middle School band room. Beginners will meet from 7:15 to 7:50 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and intermediate players will meet from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
