Steamboat briefs: Coffee and a Newspaper is July 9 at newspaper office

Coffee and a Newspaper has been changed this month from July 2 to July 9.

At the July 9 event, Steamboat Pilot & Today Publisher Suzanne Schlicht and Editor Lisa Schlichtman will lead a discussion on the importance of the Colorado Open Records Act and the newspaper’s recent court proceedings to unseal public records.

Assistant Editor Laura Mazade and reporter Matt Stensland also will be present to participate in the discussion, which will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Pilot & Today office, 1901 Curve Plaza.

11k visitors expected to be in town this weekend

The summer season is in full swing with about 11,468 visitors expected to be in town Saturday, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer released Wednesday.

The figure represents 70 percent capacity at area lodging properties, with downtown occupancy at 100 percent. On the mountain, hotels are forecast at 84 percent capacity, and condos are expected to be 54 percent full.

Lodging is expected to dip to 5,741 visitors by Wednesday.

The Chamber’s lodging barometer is based on survey data from local lodging properties. Its primary function is to help businesses determine staffing levels during the winter and summer tourism seasons. Actual lodging occupancy levels tend to increase from the forecast levels as a result of last-minute bookings.
