Steamboat briefs: City offers updates on several local road construction projects

Several road construction projects continue across Steamboat Springs. Following are updates about the various projects and related road/lane closures.

Oak Street
The Oak Street improvement project resumes work Tuesday, Sept. 5 after a month-long break. Due to the complicated nature of the upcoming section, Oak Street, between 11th to 12th streets, will be closed for four to five weeks.
During the closure, detours will be in place from assisting individuals looking to access westbound or eastbound U.S. Highway 40/Lincoln Avenue. Westbound access is recommend via 12th Street. Eastbound drivers should use Pine or Crawford to 11th Street, taking advantage of the traffic signal for a left turn onto Lincoln Avenue.
Work during this period will include storm sewer installation, curb and gutter and the installation of 8-foot sidewalk and handicapped ramps at each corner.

Yampa Street
Yampa Street Phase II construction efforts for the coming week will include closure of the public parking lot at Ninth Street as crews begin re-construction of the lot.
The sidewalk running along the parking lot next to Backdoor Sports will remain open. Work will also continue on new curb, gutter and sidewalk near the intersection of 10th and Yampa streets.
Throughout the week, additional sections of the Yampa River Core Trail will re-open to the public.

Emerald Park access
Access to the Hampton Inn remains limited to the northern approach until mid-September. Beginning Tuesday, roadway closures will extend to Trafalgar Drive. Detour signs will be placed to direct motorists accordingly. Crews continued to work on the new roadway approach to the south of the Hampton Inn and began curb and gutter prep along the west side of Ski Town Way.
For the coming week, construction efforts will include curb and gutter prep, asphalt removal, preparation work for the new roadway approach to the new railroad crossing and stormwater improvements.

Majestic Valley Circle

New on the south side of town, this project includes the construction of a bus shelter on a concrete pad, relocating the existing shelter in the Steamboat Hotel parking lot, as well as curb and gutter and installation of an attached 6-foot sidewalk which will connect to the existing Majestic Valley sidewalk along Majestic Valley Circle.
Work is expected to begin Tuesday. The transit stop work is 80-percent funded by an FTA grant obtained by the city in 2016 via CDOT.

Infrastructure repair work to close Routt County Road 14

Native Excavating will perform infrastructure repairs for Tree Haus Metro District on Sept. 5 through 20. Routt County Road 14, also known as River Road, will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic for the duration of the project. A bicycle lane will be established and maintained. Cyclists are asked to slow down and be cautious as they move through the job site. Vehicle traffic is asked to detour on Highway 40 until the road can be reopened.
For more information about the closure, contact the Native Excavating office at 970-879-6231 or Project Supervisor Chad Whitmore at 970-846-4657.
