BLM to temporarily close trailhead for improvements

The Bureau of Land Management to temporarily close trailhead west of Steamboat Springs for trailhead improvements.

The BLM will close Emerald Mountain Trailhead on Cow Creek Road — Routt County Road 45 — for about four weeks beginning Wednesday to perform trail improvements. To access this trail system until the project is finished, use the first gate on Cow Creek Road off of Routt County Road 33. The BLM is improving the trailhead to provide parking for vehicles and horse trailers to access the Ridge, Beall and Rotary trails and installing toilet facilities.

Chamber expects about 7,000 visitors for weekend

About 7,000 visitors are expected to be in town Saturday, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer released Wednesday.

The figure represents 44 percent capacity at area lodging properties, with downtown occupancy at 81 percent. On the mountain, hotels are forecast at 57 percent capacity, and condos are expected to be 33 percent full. Lodging is expected to dip to 4,500 visitors by Wednesday.

The Chamber’s lodging barometer is based on survey data from local lodging properties. Its primary function is to help businesses determine staffing levels during the winter and summer tourism seasons. Actual lodging occupancy levels tend to increase from the forecast levels as a result of last-minute bookings.
