Tread of Pioneers announces mud season closure Tread of Pioneers Museum will be closed today through April 25 for mud season, according Candice Bannister, executive director of the museum.
The museum will reopen April 26.
Friend of Hayden Library funds public improvements
Friends of the Hayden Library recently purchased new items to enhance the Hayden Public Library's ability to serve the community, including an outdoor bulletin board mounted near the library's front door, which is available for community notices, advertisements, news and more. The library encourages resident to stop by or email notices they would like included on the board.
The group also purchased a 50-inch smart television to be used for library programs and for groups in the community room and had a large photograph of the first Routt County Fair framed by the Hayden Frame and Mat shop.

Friends of the Hayden Library president Brigitt Peckham has been instrumental in keeping the funds coming in with various fundraisers.
Friends is also sponsoring local talks, a DVD presentation of the Hayden Centennial Speakers' program, bake sales, a hand crochet basket giveaway and the free Seed Library.
The group encourages community members to join them in support of their library.
It meets at 1 p.m. the first Friday of each month at the Hayden Public Library.
Business plan competition hosted by CMC in 5th year
Entering its fifth year, Colorado Mountain College is hosting a business plan competition for the community, according to a news release from the college.
The competition encourages well-researched and written business plans from new start up businesses.
With financial support from the city of Steamboat Springs, first prize will be $10,000, three months free office space in the CMC Entrepreneurship Center and an introduction to venture capital/angel investors, if needed.
Second prize is $5,000.
Plans must be submitted by Sept. 19 to Randy Rudasics, of CMC, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A panel of three judges will review the plans and schedule presentation for the best six plans during October. Each entrepreneur will have one hour to present and discuss his or her plan.
Alpine Bank is the business sponsor for this competition, and Yampa Valley SCORE provides mentors and judges to help participants prepare and improve their plans. All participants receive valuable feedback and suggestions for effective market entry.

In addition, two seminars will be offered to people looking to learn how to write a great business plan.
The seminars will be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. May 25 and June 15. The seminars are free, but registration is requested at 970-870-4491.
Lions Club meets 2nd, 4th Tuesdays of each month
The Steamboat Ski Town Lions Club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at The Egg & I restaurant.
The group is one of Steamboat's oldest civic organizations, chartered in 1923. Meetings are open to members as well as those who are interested in learning more about the Lions Club.
The Steamboat Ski Town Lions Club is made up of civic-minded men and women of all ages who identify needs within the Steamboat Springs community and work to fulfill them.
Throughout the years, the group plans or participates in numerous events and programs. It collects eyeglasses for those in need throughout the world and provides free vision screening for youths in Routt County schools and at health fairs. It supports United Way Day of Caring and the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. It provides scholarships for high school seniors and funding for local youth groups such as Rocky Mountain Youth Corps.
Highlight events include its annual Thanksgiving turkey drive, highway cleanup days, participation in the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup, Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast and Hot Air Balloon Rodeo. The club's largest fundraiser is its annual Christmas tree sale in November and December.
