Steamboat briefs: Applications due Wednesday for open commissioner seat

The Routt County Democratic Party Vacancy Committee is accepting applications for the District 3 seat on the Board of County Commissioners. The position is open to all residents of District 3 who are 18 or older and have been a registered Democrat and resident of District 3 for at least one year. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday. The District 3 vacancy was created by the resignation of Diane Mitsch Bush, who was elected state representative for House District 26 representing Routt and Eagle counties.

Community blood drive is Thursday at medical center

A community blood drive is from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Yampa Valley Medical Center. To schedule an appointment, call Bonfils Appointment Center at 1-800-365-0006, option 2, or sign up at http://www.bonfils.org, site code 0234. Walk-ins are welcome from 3 to 5:30 p.m. as space permits. Eat a full meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood.

Alive at 25 driving course slated for 4 p.m. Dec. 12

An Alive at 25 defensive driving course is from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Steamboat Springs High School. The class is required for Steamboat Springs High School students who park a vehicle on campus or earn open campus privileges. It also is required for new drivers who have not taken a drivers’ education class to get their learners permit at age 15 1/2. Register and pay the $39 class fee at http://www.coloradosafedriver.com. Students who need help paying the class fee can call instructor Dennis J. Hensen for assistance at 970-871-3685.  



Oak Creek bank collecting food for LIFT-UP this month

First National Bank of the Rockies in Oak Creek has teamed up with LIFT-UP Food Bank to collect nonperishable food items throughout December. Drop off donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 319 E. Main St.

Volunteers are needed for Salvation Army bell-ringing

The holiday Salvation Army Kettle Campaign runs through Christmas Eve. The Salvation Army is again looking for local volunteer bell ringers to take part in the community effort. Volunteers are needed for a one-hour commitment. Ninety percent of the funds raised by the bell-ringing campaign stay in Routt County and help people through LIFT-UP of Routt County’s programs.
