Steamboat Brief: Local author to teach writing courses at CMC

Steamboat Springs resident and published author Edith Lynn Beer will teach "Writing a Book that Sells" and "Writing an Article that Sells," separate four-week Colorado Mountain College courses, beginning this week.
The "Writing a Book that Sells" course is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning today and concluding Feb. 16. The cost is $49. The course will explore how to organize an idea for a book, make sure the idea for the book is unique, and discuss the craft of rewriting and style. The class also will look into the pros and cons of self-publishing, as well as how to present a book to a mainstream publisher.
The "Writing an Article that Sells" course is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Feb. 17. The cost is $49. The course will help authors determine who in these tough economic times is accepting articles, how to market an article and how to write a good article. The writer will learn how to judge material and writing style, the importance of rewrites and organization of material.
