Steamboat boys thump Eagle Valley

— Robi Powers scored 17 points, sinking his first five 3-point shots Saturday to lead the Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team to an easy win against Eagle Valley, 69-33.

The game was never close, the Sailors leading 40-8 at halftime.

“We played four quarters. That was our goal going in, to put up a solid 32 minutes,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. “Our guys did that, especially on the defensive end.”

The Sailors got 11 points from Garrett Bye and 10 from Brody King as they improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

“All of our starters were really solid, and we had guys coming off the bench to play minutes and they did a nice job, too,” DeWolfe said. “We stepped it up tonight and it was nice to see everything clicking and going the way we’ve worked on.”

The Sailors are now off until a Jan. 9 game at Palisade.
