Steamboat boys soccer falls, 5-1, on the road

— A trip to the Front Range didn’t end well for the Steamboat Springs High School boys soccer team.

The Sailors lost, 5-1, to Centaurus on Saturday. The Warriors got started early, scoring twice in the first half. Steamboat stroke back in the second, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Centaurus added three more goals.

The loss drops Steamboat to 6-4-1 on the season.

Steamboat returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against 7-1 Battle Mountain. The matchup comes with big implications for the Western Slope League. The defending state champ Huskies lost their first soccer game in nearly two seasons, falling, 2-1, on Wednesday against Summit.
