Steamboat boys lacrosse stumbles at home
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team opened its season with a big win over the weekend, but it couldn’t maintain that momentum Wednesday as it played at home against one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
The Sailors lost at home to Thompson Valley, 15-5.
The game starts a furious streak of home action for the Sailors. They turn around to play Thursday at 4 p.m. against Eagle Valley, then play at home yet again at 12:30 p.m. Saturday against Golden. They’re then on the road for a 5:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Glenwood Springs.
It all makes for a brutally tough schedule to start the season. Aspen was ranked No. 9 in the CHSAANow.com 4A boys lacrosse preseason poll. Thompson Valley came in No. 4 in that poll and Golden No. 10. Steamboat was ranked seventh.
