Continuing their winning ways, the Steamboat Springs baseball team dominated Moffat County Wednesday night and is zeroing in on its goal of hitting 10 wins by the halfway mark of the season.
Due to snowy conditions in Craig, Wednesday’s games were moved to Rifle where the Sailors took home 12-0 and 20-0 victories.
The doubleheader opened with senior Damien Dobson on the mound for the Sailors.
Dobson blew the Bulldogs away with 11 strikeouts and just one walk. He didn’t give up a hit in the game, which only lasted five innings due to the 10 run mercy rule.
The team took momentum from game one’s blow out and made it even bigger in game two, taking the Bulldogs down in just three innings off the 20 run mercy rule.
The team hit nine extra-base hits in the second game, including seven doubles and a pair of triples.
Senior Wiley Cotter earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings with Jude Fesperman striking out the side in his inning of work.
Steamboat has scored 124 runs this year, only allowing 45. The Sailors now sit 8-3 on the season and are riding a four game win streak. The team heads straight back to Rifle on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Rifle Bears.
