Steamboat Art Museum calls on writers for ekphrastic writing contest
The Steamboat Art Museum is inviting all writers to join the fifth annual creative collaboration of the visual arts and the written word, Ekphrasis 2022: A Visual Writing Event.
Ekphrastic writing is the use of words to comment on a piece of visual art. This year, writers’ imaginations will be sparked by over 200 paintings in the current exhibition, “Oil Painters of America National Exhibition” at the art museum.
Admission is free, and people are being encouraged to write prose or poetry up to 750 words. Entries should be submitted to the Steamboat Art Museum online by the deadline 5 p.m. July 1. An awards and readings reception will be July 21 at the art museum.
Awards will be given in adult and youth categories, prose and poetry. Selected entries will be read during the celebration by “celebrity readers.” For more, SteamboatArtMuseum.org/ekphrasis-registration/.
