Steamboat Resort will open for the 2023-24 season Wednesday with the Christie Peak Express Lift and seven trails on 25 acres of terrain.
For opening day, skiers and riders will have access to Jess’ Cut Off, Sitz, Sitz Back, Vogue, Lower Short Cut and Stampede, as well as terrain in the Lil’ Rodeo terrain park. Timber & Torch and the Range Food & Drink Hall will be opening for dining.
The Steamboat Gondola will operate for scenic rides with dining available in the Thunderhead Lodge on Saturday and Sunday.
“We’re eager to kick off another incredible season at Steamboat and applaud our operations teams in their efforts to get the resort open,” said Dave Hunter, vice president of resort operations and resort lead for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp, in a statement. “This preseason has been dryer than usual, but we’ve maximized snowmaking opportunities and will continue to take advantage of cold temperatures and natural snow to open more terrain. We can’t wait to see what this winter has in store for us.”
Opening day events will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, one hour prior to the lifts starting. Guests can enjoy complimentary Korbel mimosas and Champagne Powder donuts from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and free Ohana custom designed T-shirts will be passed out to the first 100 skiers and riders in line.
Skiers and riders can participate in the resort’s Instagram scavenger hunt to follow clues and find prizes on the mountain throughout the day. Prizes include Ohana Opening Day shirts, Smartwool socks and WinterWonderGrass tickets.
The fun will continue Saturday with the Steamboat Season Launch Party and a free concert from The Motet. For more about Saturday’s lineup, go to Steamboat.com/events.
The weather forecast looks favorable Saturday through Nov. 28 with the possibility for around-the-clock snowmaking, according to the resort.
As a result, crews will continue to work with Mother Nature to cover more terrain with the focus next on Heavenly Daze, Greenhorn Ranch and Right-O-Way. With additional snowmaking efforts and natural snowfall, the resort will open more terrain as conditions allow.
