Steamboat American Legion team closes out its regular season

The Steamboat Springs American Legion baseball team picked up a pair of league wins during the weekend to close out the regular season.

Steamboat beat Basalt, 11-2 and 14-1.

Thanks to strong pitching performances, Steamboat had a relatively easy time with Basalt.

Matt Regan and Johnny Stensvad combined to throw a two-hitter in the first game. In the second game, Ryan Jeep, Jesse Pugh and Connor Jennings combined to throw a one hitter.

Jeep also led Steamboat at the plate, finishing 6 for 8 with two doubles and 4 RBIs including a two run home run.

Regan added four hits and four RBIs, and Pugh Stensvad and Cutter Pasternak each had three hits.

Steamboat now enters the district tournament Friday in Palisade. The team opens at 11 a.m. with No. 2 Palisade.

The top three teams from the tournament advance to the state tournament.

“Offensively and defensively, we have as good a chance as anyone to win the district,” Steamboat manager Dave Roy said.
