Statewide system inks different fingerprint process

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — On Sept. 24, the state launched the Colorado Applicant Background Services program, which significantly changes the process for obtaining civil fingerprints for individuals seeking background checks. The new process brings revisions to Steamboat Springs Police Department’s current fingerprinting process.

Until both statewide vendors have been approved, Steamboat police have been authorized to continue providing fingerprinting for civil licensing requirements for residents; however, the arrangement is temporary. The interim service provides an option for applicants to access civil fingerprinting without traveling to vendor locations outside of the city. Steamboat civil fingerprinting services are available 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The cost is $10. The state has not yet announced a timeline for completing the vendor transition.
