The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Alpine team qualified four skiers for the 2025 U16 Alpine National Championships, held from March 31-April 4 in Sugarloaf, Maine.
Local qualifiers are Molly Fretwell, Isabella Konecsny, Schuyler Biglow and Pthalo Plomteux. These athletes qualified based on their results at the U16 Rocky Central Junior Championships in Vail earlier this month.
The Rocky Central Championships began with a downhill training run followed by a downhill race. Fretwell led the women with a sixth-place finish.
Following the downhill races, the event was paused due to mechanical issues with the main chairlift, making the venue inaccessible. Race organizers moved the events to Beaver Creek, but super-G and super combined had to be canceled in the process.
On the slalom course, Fretwell made her mark once again after finishing 27th in the first run and taking the fastest time on the second run to move up to fourth.
Fretwell then landed a bronze medal in the giant slalom event, with Konecsny right behind in fourth. Schuyler Biglow took seventh in slalom, later upgrading to fifth in giant slalom.
