Spring swinging: Steamboat Golf Club set to open for 2025

Steamboat Golf Club, located across from Steamboat II, has announced it will be open for the 2025 golf season on Friday.
The club, which originally opened in 1964, is consistently one of the first public courses in Routt County to open. This year’s opening occurs a week earlier than 2024 — which was three weeks earlier than 2023.
“This is probably one of the earliest times we’ve opened,” said Steamboat Golf Club General Manager Eric McCaugherty. “April 11 is a pretty early start for us and we’re pretty excited about that.”
“It’s always nice being the first course open and seeing the excitement in the community around golf,” McCaugherty added. “Our phones are constantly ringing with people asking when we will be open so it’s always nice to open earlier and earlier every year depending on how much snow we got.”
McCaugherty said crews put in a lot of work at the end of the golf season in the fall to make the spring opening as easy as possible. Typically, the only maintenance required is the clearing of branches, the removal of snow and pumping water off the course.
“We’re OK opening if there is snow on the far sides of the rough and stuff like that, but we have to make sure the piles of water are pumped out and all the greens are clear of snow is really the most important part,” McCaugherty said. “It really just comes down to snow melt.”
Course rates will remain the same as last season with Routt County residents walking nine holes for $38. Non-county residents can walk for $45. Punch cards are also available for 10 rounds of nine-hole golf for $279 until April 25.
Those planning to play on a regular basis can sign up for a limited number of available membership slots. Membership prices range from $1,100 to $1,400 with the option of upgrading to the Corporate pass for around $3,000.
To purchase a membership, players should call the clubhouse at 970-879-4295 and speak to McCaugherty.
The club’s bar and restaurant will be open Friday to serve a variety of food and drinks all day.
The 2,913-yard, par-35 course will offer tee times beginning at 9 a.m. with temperatures predicted to reach a high of 67 degrees Friday. Tee times can be purchased by phone or online.
