Sports briefs: Steamboat Springs boys tennis and soccer see weekend victories

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School boys tennis team won its home match against Basalt 7-0 on Saturday, Sept. 22.
Freshman Andy Schuiling defeated David Zalinkski in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Roy Lundeen, making his third appearance at No. 2 singles, defeated Randz Lim 6-1, 6-0. Senior Ethan Paulus closed out the singles matchups with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Dane Elliott.
The Sailors only gave up three sets in four doubles matches. Junior Gabe Rabanal and senior John Hannaway delivered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Jonas Kohout and Matt Roggie. Seniors Jackson Lynch and Jacob Gillbertson defeated Chris and Ethan Tomoskavic 6-1, 6-0. The No. 3 and No. 4 doubles pairs juniors Kyle Nilsson and Brayden MacDougall and freshman Kyle Saunders and sophomore Dylan Dietrich shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0.
The Sailors took on Aspen and Vail Mountain on Tuesday, Sept. 25. They host Kent Denver on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Steamboat Springs soccer endures ups and downs
The Steamboat Springs boys soccer team grabbed a 4-1 victory against Wheat Ridge on Saturday, Sept. 22, closing out a three-game week on the road.
The Sailors took a 1-0 lead at halftime before coming up with three goals in the second half. Senior Murphy Bohlmann led the team with two goals, and senior Quinn Connell and junior Kevin Kaster each added one.
Bohlmann led the week as the Sailors’ top scorer with three goals scored, including one from the 7-2 loss to Battle Mountain. Junior Oliver Capparelli also launched a goal in that game.
Kaster finished the week with two goals, including one in the 3-3 tie with Summit, where seniors Daniel Lopez and Riley Moore also added one goal apiece.
Steamboat Springs went into the game against Glenwood Springs with a 6-1-1 overall record, including a 4-1-1 class 4A Western Slope League record, with its loss to Battle Mountain and tie with Summit from last week’s competition.
But the Sailors were handed another loss to Glenwood Springs (5-3-1, 4-1-1) 4-3 on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
Bohlmann scored two goals while Lopez added another.
Soroco XC performs well at West Grand meet
The Rams finished with two top team placings at the West Grand meet on Saturday, Sept. 22
The girls team tied for first overall, while the boys team took second overall.
