South Routt Elementary School receives award

— South Routt Elementary School in Yampa will be one of 32 Colorado schools to be recognized Wednesday as a Healthy Schools Champion during the Colorado Legacy Foundation’s 2012 Healthy Schools Summit in Denver. South Routt Elementary School will receive $500 for the award.

To be considered a Healthy Schools Champion, the school had to complete an online scorecard identifying how it ensures a connection between health and learning for students, as well as a coordinated approach to health and wellness, according to a news release.

“The scorecard tool helped us to showcase a number of the healthy activities that are hapening at South Routt Elementary and we are delighted to be recognized and receive a monetary award,” Principal Raylene Olinger said in the release. “We are invested in making not only South Routt Elementary School and our students healthy learners, we want all Colorado schools to be the healthiest in the nation.”

This week’s 2012 Healthy Schools Summit will bring together 500 teachers, district leaders, health experts, policymakers and community stakeholders to focus on policies and best practices for creating, enhancing and maintaining healthy, safe and welcoming schools for all students, according to the release.
