SOUND OFF for Sept. 22

Where’s the swing?

As far as suggestions for next year’s Labor Day music festival goes, it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing. What about that classic hot jazz called swing? It’s so old it’s new. And it’s distinctly missing here, and sorely missed by more than just a few. Bet there a heck of a lot of jazz fans of the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s on up through the ’90s who if not nearby would come from afar to hear a festival of swing. But it’s that silent majority thing again. Cat’s got it’s tongue and it won’t let loose. I say give the cat a whack and speak up.

Nice editorial

Congratulations to Steamboat Today for the editorial Wednesday called “Let Freedom Ring.” That was where Gov. Owens wanted to keep a Palestinian from speaking at CU. Owens would certainly let a right-wing Christian speaking anywhere, but he shows his bigotry when he doesn’t want anyone to speak to the Palestinian cause.

What was he thinking?

Someone needs to examine Mark Drake’s head. What was he doing leaving his starting quarterback, or any of his first-stringers for that matter, in the game when he’s winning 42-0 in the third quarter. I know football is supposed to be tough and all, but that was just dumb. Now our starting quarterback is hurt.

Excise tax better

Yes, I do think and excise tax would be a better replacement for an impact fee.

Running off principals

First it was Cheryl Sage at Soda Creek and now it looks like it is John DeVincentis at Strawberry Park. When is someone going to stop our school board from running off good principals? I will homeschool my child if Dr. D is forced to leave.

Good for Oak Creek

I saw where Oak Creek and Mayor Cargo Rodeman are going to be featured in the Denver Post. I bet that’ll be really good for business down here. I hope everybody is happy. There are people down here who had nothing to do with any of this, but now the whole town is getting a bad name.

Conflict of interest

I saw where the editor of the newspaper is now involved in this River Place project. Then I noticed a story about the City Council talking about River Place on the front page of the newspaper. I think that’s a conflict of interest. I don’t think the editor should be putting a story about his project on the front page.

Keep stats coming

I think it is good that you put the Sailors’ season stats in the newspaper on Sunday. I hope it’s something you will do every week and not just a one-time thing.
