Soroco volleyball team picks up key win

It wasn’t pretty, but Soroco High School volleyball coach Jeannie Jo Logan said it didn’t have to be Tuesday night as the Rams beat Vail Mountain in four sets.

Soroco won, 25-21, 27-29, 25-17, 25-18.

“We won in four,” Logan said, “but we should have won in three. They played well but didn’t play with a ton of intensity.”

The win is a major boost for the Rams 9-7 as they try to lock down third place in their district. It’s likely to come down to a tie with Vail Mountain, and with Tuesday’s win, Soroco swept the season series to gain the edge.

Logan said her team was least focused in the first two sets but pulled things together to win the second two to close the night out.

Senior Lucy Carlson led the way, and the team got a strong performance from its back row on defense, an effort led by Kali Constine. They were able to absorb serves and attacks, then relay them forward for strong kills.

“They’re fun to watch when they do that stuff,” Logan said.

The team is back in action at home twice this weekend, starting at 6 p.m. Friday against Rangely, then Saturday against Plateau Valley.

The Routt to Adventure: Backcountry skiing at Bluebird

I have been skiing about 15 years now, learning to Nordic ski in gym class in elementary school and grew up Alpine skiing at Okemo Mountain in my home state of Vermont. I’m by no means a daredevil but I am comfortable on Alpine skis and my ability to get around in them.
