— Saturday’s away game against the Gilpin County Eagles proved to be a nail biter, with the Soroco Rams edging out a 20-14 win.

Soroco Rams head football coach Dick Dudas said the Eagles, with a home field advantage, came out in the first quarter and took the lead 14-0.

“The team we played played tough, and they were ready for us,” Dudas said.

The Rams had a touchdown in the opening kickoff, but it was called back because of an illegal block to the back.

Soroco was able to crawl its way back and tied the game in the third quarter 14-14. The game went into overtime, and the Eagles got the first possession. They were unable to score.

On Soroco’s first overtime possession, Isaac Jonas found Kendall Hood in the corner of the endzone to give the Rams the win in a close game.

“People said it was a lot of fun to watch, but from a coach’s standpoint, it was pretty sloppy,” Dudas said.

Dudas said they left 24 points on the field, and the Eagles left six points on the field.

Soroco fumbled six times and had two interceptions.

Other Rams players to score touchdowns were Jace Logan and Jonas.

Soroco improves to 2-0 in the league and 5-1 overall.

The Rams will next host Plateau Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday.
