Soroco hoops teams open postseason play today

Soroco High School basketball girls host Meeker, boys play Paonia today

— Soroco High School’s boys and girls basketball teams begin postseason games today.

The girls host Meeker at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the district tournament. The Rams (11-5) beat Meeker, 61-45, in the teams’ only meeting of the year.

“It’s a pretty good matchup,” Soroco coach David Bruner said. “We have to stop their inside game. They have a girl that is about 6-2 and we have to keep her from getting the ball down low. We have to handle their pressure and not turn the ball over. Then offensively, when we get the ball we have to knock down those open shots.”

The Soroco boys open postseason play with a preliminary district tournament game at 5:30 p.m. today in Paonia.
