Soroco girls win big again
Steamboat Springs — The Soroco High School girls basketball team made it look easy again Monday night, winning a road game at Gilpin County, 87-31.
The Rams got up big early working on a full-court man press, then dropped into a zone in the second half, focused on more fine tuning.
“Defensively we played really well,” Soroco coach David Bruner said. “We’re 9-2 now and we’re pleased with that.”
The win broke the team’s record points in a game. That was made possible by a huge night from Briana Peterson, who scored 27. Jessica Rossi had 21, DaKota Bruner 15 and Kellen Garrity nine.
Soroco led 47-16 at half.
The Rams now have most of the week off, playing next at Lake County on Saturday. Next week, however, will be full of tests. The squad will go on the road to play two of the best teams in its division, North Park on Tuesday and Vail Christian on Friday, then play at home Saturday against another of the top dogs, West Grand.
“We’ll be working on some stuff the next four or five days to get ready,” David Bruner said.
