Soroco girls hoops closes out Rangely with 21-point win

— Playing with a flu-stricken squad, the Soroco High School girls basketball team still was able to grab a big win Friday night at Rangely, dominating the Panthers by 21 points.

Using strong second and fourth quarters, the Rams improved to 4-1 with the 68-47 victory. Soroco has scored at least 66 points in all of its wins so far this winter.

“Our effort was great tonight,” Soroco coach David Bruner said. “A lot of our girls are sick, but I was really pleased with the girls who played.”

The Rams led by just 3 points after the first quarter but blew open a 31-11 halftime lead. The Panthers snuck back into it in the third, closing the gap to 8 points, but Soroco closed out the game strong.

Jessica Rossi led all scorers with 23 points. Briana Peterson pitched in 19, and DaKota Bruner tacked on 12 more.

“Our big three really got the job done,” David Bruner said.

The Rams will host their home opener Saturday against South Park (4-2). Tipoff is at 1 p.m. in Oak Creek.
