STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Soroco High School girls basketball team wrapped up a sixth-place finish in the Steamboat Shoot-Out on Saturday with a loss to Montrose, 50-30.

Rams’ coach David Bruner said he wanted his team to face stiff challenges from larger schools with taller girls. They got all of that they could handle Saturday as Montrose pushed to 10-0 lead to start the game, then built on it throughout the first half.

Soroco rallied to stop the bleeding, then to close within 20 on several occasions in the second half, but couldn’t ever string together enough turnovers and points to climb all the way back into the game.

The Rams, 3-3, next play Friday at South Park. That game will finish off the 2017 portion of their schedule.
