— The Soroco High School girls basketball made it a weekend sweep, playing Friday and Saturday in a four-team tournament in Cortez.

The Rams won twice, beating Montezuma-Cortez Friday 70-34 in a wild game that featured multiple coach and fan ejections from Montezuma-Cortez’s side.

A day later, Soroco won again, beating Ignacio 61-33.

“We were pretty excited,” coach David Bruner said. “Defensively, we’re getting better. We still have a lot of work to do, definitely, a lot of things to fix, but we’re getting better. And we’re improving offensively, too. I’m pretty pleased with where we’re at.”

The Rams are 5-1 and play their final game before the winter break at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at home against South Park.

Friday, DaKota Bruner led the team with 21 points, but she was only one of four Rams in double figures. Chloe Veilleux and Mattie Rossi each had 15, and Morgan George added 13. Charlee Veilleux scored nine.

Charlee Veilleux scored 15 to lead the team against Ignacio. DaKota Bruner and George had 13 and Chloe Veilleux seven.

“We have pretty balanced scoring,” David Bruner said. “If you can keep spreading it out like that, it’s really hard to stop.”
