Soroco boys win at North Park
The Soroco High School boys basketball team got off to a slow start Tuesday, but it played strong for three quarters and came out of a road trip to North Park with a crucial win, 41-34.
“It was tough. We struggled again in the first half,” coach Shawn Hayes said. “But the kids fought through in the second half. They did good things defensively and on the boards and controlled the game that way.”
Warren Hayes scored 15 points to lead the team. Storm Veilleux had 10.
Shawn Hayes also pointed to freshman Ben Kelley, who provided big minutes off the bench defensively.
The Rams trailed after the first quarter but had a four-point lead at half, then did just enough to hold off North Park the rest of the way, nailing free throws in the waning moments to finish off the game.
Soroco now plays on the road again Friday at Vail Christian before returning home Saturday to play West Grand.
“Those games mean a lot,” Hayes said. “They mean everything. Our goal is to finish No. 1 or No. 2 in the league in our division. We’re still there, but we need to take care of these next two games.”
