The Soroco High School boys basketball team is looking ahead at opportunities as it heads toward the end of the season despite two tough losses in the last week.

The Rams lost at North Park on Tuesday, 49-46, then Saturday against Hotchkiss, 66-39.

With looming road trips to play at West Grand and Hayden next weekend, Soroco’s hoping to earn itself a home game in the first round of the district tournament.

“That’s what we’re shooting for,” coach Shawn Hayes said. “This week will be a good challenge for us.”

It’ll need more consistent play than it had Saturday against Hotchkiss. The Rams scored just two points in the first half and trailed by 25 at halftime.

“We made way too many turnovers in that first half,” Hayes said. “That really hurt us. It was a lack of mental focus. In the second, I liked our resiliency and how we battled back. It was just too big of a hole in the first half against a good team.”

Grant Redmond finished with 14 points, and Kendall Hood had 10.

Soroco’s 3-11 on the season and 1-7 in the league.
