The Soroco High School boys basketball team went 1-2 on a weekend trip to the Cowboy Shootout basketball tournament in Meeker, falling to Aspen, 50-33, and Cedaredge, 75-58, while beating Moffat County’s junior varsity, 67-50.

“It was a good weekend, even though we lost two,” coach Shawn Hayes said. “We got a lot of positive coming out of there. We’re on the right track.”

The Rams got a big game against Moffat’s JV from junior center Grant Redmond, who had 24 points and 20 rebounds. The Rams also had 14 points from Colton Stroup and 13 each from Nick Estes and Bosch Erickson.

Estes, a sophomore, then turned around against Cedaredge and poured in six 3-point shots, finishing with 19 points.

“We really pushed him into that starting point guard role and he’s stepped up,” Hayes said.

Soroco was competitive in the first half in both of its losses, but faded later.

“We did some good things,” Hayes said.
