Soroco boys earn split in weekend games

Joel Reichenberger

— The Soroco High School boys basketball split its game at a two-day tournament at South Park High School, and the squad came away just fine with that result.

Sure, it would have rather gone 2-0, but with a 51-40 loss Saturday to Del Norte, counting the team’s 55-33 win Friday night against South Park, the Rams found plenty to like and plenty to work on.

“I like the buy in we’ve seen to what we’re trying to accomplish this season,” Soroco coach Shawn Hayes said. “Any loss is going to be tough, but the kids are disappointed, not upset. They know they’re moving in the right direction.”

Soroco got 14 points from Eric Logan to lead the way Saturday. Warren Hayes scored 12.

Chance Beaty lead the team in Friday’s win, scoring 17. Hayes scored 13.

Shawn Hayes said his team needs to work on defense and rebounding before it heads into the Meeker Cowboy Shootout on Thursday.
