Soroco boys basketball rolls over De Beque
Steamboat Springs — Saturday’s game was one the Soroco High School boys basketball team was supposed to win, so it came as no surprise when it did, easily beating De Beque, 79-30.
Expected or not, coach Shawn Hayes said the win was a sweet one for his team.
“It was a perfect game to get back on track,” Hayes said. “It was great to finally get a complete game on offense, defense and everything.”
Chance Beaty and Eric Logan each scored 16 points to help lead the team. Warren Hayes and Carl Rossi each had 10.
For a player like Beaty, it was an especially nice day. As the team’s point guard, he’s more often trying to rack up assists than points. On Saturday, he got going early, scoring 11 in the first quarter.
“We really got some kids scoring who haven’t been able to score much in the last few games,” Shawn Hayes said. “We really got a chance to get into our offensive flow, and we worked on our depth a little bit. We’ll need that down the stretch of the season in our tougher games.
“That was a really good, strong start to the second half of our season.”
The Rams, 7-4, next play Saturday at Lake County.
