Steamboat Springs — Round 1 goes to the Rams.
The Soroco High School football team will see Rangely in back-to-back games, with only a Soroco bye week in between. Friday, the Rams took the first of those two meetings, winning decisively in Rangely, 46-6.
“We wanted to make an announcement to the rest of the league that if they expect to win it, they’ll have to come through us,” Soroco coach Dick Dudas said.
Rangely is a league opponent, though Friday’s game wasn’t a league game. The next round against the Panthers, Sept. 30, will be.
The Rams, 3-1, rushed for 450 yards, 223 from the feet of sophomore Jace Logan. Logan had four total touchdowns, three rushing and one on a punt return.
Isaac Jonas, meanwhile, also ran one in, and quarterback Lane Martindale connected with Sarvis Anarella for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
It all started up front.
“Our line play is starting to get a lot better, especially on the offensive side of the ball,” Dudas said. “We’re really starting to block as a unit.”
