Soroco, Steamboat Springs girls top XC meet, Wranglers start season

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Soroco senior Chloe Veilleux ran a blazing 19 minutes, 53 seconds to finish first at the Soroco Invitational in Oak Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Her sister freshman Betsy Veilleux would take third overall with a time of 22:05.

Soroco’s Kayedence Bruner came in sixth overall to cap off the Rams’ top 10 finishers.

Steamboat Springs placed five in the top 10 for a second overall team finish to Soroco.

Freshman Courtney Vargas led the charge as the second overall finisher in the race. Juniors Emily Craig, Grace Drobek and Siera Harrison took fourth, seventh and eighth overall respectively. Sophomore Katie Lake came in ninth.

Steamboat Wranglers start season

The Steamboat Wranglers will host a home scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Howelsen Ice Arena against the Cheyenne Stampede. The Wranglers start their regular season next week with a home series against the Utah Outliers with games at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6. The final game of the series will be played at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.
