Snowboarders rack up strong finishes

— Steamboat Springs’ Winters brothers got the best of the action Saturday and Sunday at a United States Snowboard Association snowboarder cross event at Ski Cooper, Billy Winters and Cody Winters leading the way for a dozen Steamboat Springs podium finishes.

Billy Winters won Sunday’s event in his class while Cody Winters finished second twice.

Winston Vaughan had a strong weekend, earning second- and third-place finishes while Marty Boyd and Rebecca Dillion each finished second in both of their races.

Grace Drobeck also had one second-place finish while Sophie Scheel and Jacy Werner each earned one third-place finish.

Many of the same racers also competed Friday at a USASA Banked Slalom at Copper Mountain.

There, they mastered a tight, technical course for more strong finishes.

Drobek won her race while Boyd, Dillion and Cody Winters all had third-place finishes. Billy Winters was fourth, Jacy Werner was fifth and Johnny Duty was sixth.
