Smoke near Strawberry park is controlled burn

— Steamboat area residents of Strawberry Park and the neighborhoods around Colorado Mountain College who spy a column of smoke as soon as Monday this coming week need not be alarmed. Nor do the need to call the fire department.

The smoke is coming from an approved burn of a slash pile left over from beetle-killed tree removal on the north side of the ridge between Fish Creek Falls Road and Strawberry Park.

The owner of the property Steve Elkins confirmed he has obtained a Colorado “pile smoke management permit” from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. He says local officials are aware of it.
