Sluggish night hands Steamboat girls hoops loss No. 6

— Not real good. It was just about the only way Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball coach Mack Spitellie could describe his team’s sluggish start to the new year, losing at Palisade, 58-22.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Spitellie said. “We just looked slow. The holiday break had a lot to do with it. I haven’t seen some of these kids for two weeks.”

Palisade (6-2) raced out to a 30-8 halftime lead, more than enough for the Bulldogs to cruise to their 36-point victory. The Sailors were led in scoring by junior Jenna Miller, who pitched in nine points.

The Sailors will be back on the court Saturday afternoon at 4-5 Delta. Spitellie said he’s hoping for some big changes overnight. The game starts at 2 p.m.

“We need to change our attitudes that we can win,” he said.
