Slopestylers shine at Vail event
Steamboat Springs — A pack of a dozen Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club freestyle skiers closed out the United States of America Snowboard Association season in style, showing well at a slopestyle event in Vail last weekend.
Right at the front of the group was Riley Jacobs, one of the team’s youngest competitors, but one who shined. She won the 10-12 skier girls division.
“It was her first win of the year,” coach Andy Michnay said. “She put down a great run doing righ tand left 360s and was solid on the rails.”
Liam Baxter was strong on the boys side in the 10-12 division, placing second. Logan Spiegel was 11th, Alex Spiegel 19th and Owen Taylor 22nd in that same classification.
Wiley Wagner was fourth and Cael McCarthy fifth in the boys 9-and-under division.
Among older skiers, Josie Seibel was second in the girls 13-15 division. In boys 13-15, Kai Doyle was seventh, Bryan Gilbertson 15th, Mac Skov 17th and Max Sauerbrey 19th.
